Will the treble 20 go green at the World Darts Championship? PDC looks to pull publicity stunt alongside Paddy Power

The PDC announced with much fanfare Monday that the treble 20 at the World Darts Championship will be coloured green. Yet it appears to be about a publicity stunt. Betting firm Paddy Power is the title sponsor of this year's World Darts Championship and they are known for marketing stunts.

According to the PDC, the dartboards were produced by Winmau, the PDC's official board supplier. The association says Michael Smith, Michael van Gerwen and Fallon Sherrock will get a chance to get used to the innovative dartboard on Monday night at the World Championship promo.

The reason given for the change is that research has shown that the color green is in the middle of our visual spectrum, while red and blue are at both ends of the scale, making them more difficult to see. This means not only that green is the color we perceive more accurately, but also that it provides improved precision.

Still, it seems unlikely that the treble 20 at the World Darts Championship will actually turn green. In any case, Paddy Power's action has succeeded. On social media, the announcement is widely shared and other media outlets have also picked up on the publicity stunt.
