Luke Woodhouse and
Jose de Sousa are the first players through to the final day at the
German Darts Open in Jena after wins over Ryan Searle and Dragutin Horvat to kick off Saturday's action.
Woodhouse impressed yesterday with his win over Keane Barry and continued Searle's
European Tour woes with the form not coming for 'Heavy Metal' in recent months while 'Woody' seems to be getting stronger.
It was a 6-3 win for Woodhouse who hit four 180's alongside an 89 average. Searle hit similar in terms of scoring and averages but struggled on the outer ring on just 21% as he became the first seed to fall.
Breaking to go 3-1 up with a 13-darter, Woodhouse pinned double 10 to consolidate at 4-1 before Searle hit back with a 52 checkout to break but after missing pivotal darts at double was broken back immediately at 5-3 before Woodhouse sealed the deal by aid of more missed darts by Searle.
While for De Sousa, he faced Horvat who is on home soil but was beaten by the Special One 6-4 who averaged 90, hitting three 180's and a high checkout of 108.
This all with 40% on the doubles compared to a 78 average from Horvat who becomes the latest home hero to fall in Jena.
