Luke Woodhouse is safely through to the second round at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship where he will face top seed, Gerwyn Price.
Woodhouse sealed a straight sets win over Vladyslav Omelchenko, the Ukrainian trailblazer who was making his debut as the first player from his nation involved amid the current war between his homeland and Russia.
Omelchenko missed a chance for the opening leg and Woodhouse hit double 10. He pinned double five to hold and go one away from the set.
Omelchenko missed 85 on double five and Woodhouse took the set on double 20. He continued his winning run and hit double 20 for an opening hold.
Woodhouse missed five darts at doubles and Omelchenko got his first leg on the board. But a 107 checkout saw him go one away only for him to miss a dart at bull on 87 and allowed Omelchenko a chance to make it 2-2.
A 108 checkout was pinned by Woodhouse though to avert a second set scare and he went one away. A 119 checkout on the bull saw Woody seal an opening break.
But Omelchenko hit a superb 143 checkout to make it 1-1. Only for Woodhouse to go one away and seal the victory.
