Wright claims first title of 2021 with victory over Price in Day Four final at PDC Super Series

Peter Wright is in the winners' circle for the first time in 2021 after claiming victory over Gerwyn Price in the final Super Series (Players Championship Eight) of the week.

Wright averaged 102 in an 8-3 victory as he produced a brilliant day of darts and joins Brendan Dolan, Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton in winning this week.

Price was behind early on against Wright with 'Snakebite' firing in a 161 checkout to double his lead in the final.

The World Number One hit back with a 60 checkout to halve the deficit but missed tops for a 100 checkout and Wright replied with the same double to make it 3-1 and break back immediately.

Wright held from there and confounded Price's frustration by hitting back-to-back 180's and pinning double 16 for an 11-darter and a 5-1 lead.

Wright aimed for a potentially insurmountable 6-1 lead but despite hitting 180 to leave 21, Price took out 116 to make it 5-2.

But Wright replied with a 110 checkout to break again and go 6-2 up. He pinned another maximum to leave 57 with Price not able to muster a finish and headed towards the brink at 7-2.

Price got to 50 after nine darts and claimed a 12-dart hold to make it 7-3. Wright set it up on double 16 with Price not able to trouble his throw and he finished Super Series II with his first title of 2021.
