Peter Wright defied flawless finishing from Fallon Sherrock to move through the opening round at the
World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam and for 'Snakebite', it is another iteration of a player raising their level against him.
"She said to me on stage why can't I play like this in the World Series all the other games even back home not just going to Australia. But I knew she was going to do it as everyone at the minute is just turning up, Jim Williams the other week (in Budapest) decided to play nuts and beat us. I guess I've got a target on my back and everyone wants to beat the World Champion," said Wright to Online Darts.
"But I suppose for Fallon, she wanted to show the world that she can still play darts against the best darts players in the world. She done that tonight."
For Wright after winning the German Darts Open, he is rejuvenated and ready for a big end to 2022.
"There's plenty more to come, a bit rusty here and there. Since the last World Championship, I've lost around a stone. Just feel great after the surgery and I feel like I've got no things in my mind in terms of if I eat this, will this bring on an attack. So having that out of my mind and I feel having the time off might have helped as well. I'm fresh and everyone watch out."
"If I'd carried on and play straight to the World Series, I wouldn't have went to those two Europeans. I was having that time off getting ready for the World Grand Prix and European Championship but it's worked out really well."
A lot of talk has surrounded the fall out between Peter Wright and Dimitri van den Bergh which was seemingly resolved in Jena last week and he said it wasn't on the Belgian.
"Just a couple of things here and there, stuff in the back room, on the stage I didn't think the throw was correct and I should have said something in the beginning and I didn't. I thought I'll just change my darts, I'll find it. I was disappointed in myself, played rubbish throughout the match and still had darts to push ahead and beat him."
"It wasn't nothing towards Dimitri, I was more disappointed in myself. We had a discussion about it last week he understands. He said stuff as well. We are fine."
A new shirt was worn by Wright in tribute to Kyle Anderson which he couldn't wear Down Under due to not playing but he said it will now be a yearly fixture to raise money for his family.
"We've got the Australia and New Zealand shirts we were going to wear out there. This is obviously done with Jo (his wife) on the designs, we are going to auction it and hopefully raise some money for his family for Christmas if it's to pay their bills or just to have a bit of food or Christmas presents. We are going to do that every single year."
