Wright who has been a huge ambassador for German darts through his many appearances on the European Tour and his popularity as a whole in the country has befittingly taken back the title won by Mensur Suljovic last year.
It could have been completely different though against 'The German Giant' who was in his first ever PDC TV final. Clemens went 3-1 up which included an excellent exhibition 134 checkout with T18, D20, D20.
Wright was struggling on doubles but was finding ways to peg Clemens back though and it went into the break at parity. Clemens regained the lead and potentially the momentum in the tie at 4-3 but he missed two darts to go 5-3 up allowing Wright to level again which could have been the turning point.
Wright moved ahead for the first time in the final with a brilliant break of throw at 5-4 with an 11 darter and he made it three legs on the spin to silence the crowd and go two away from the title. Clemens came back to hold but 'Snakebite' went one away after punishing more missed darts.
Wright was made to wait at 7-6 behind but a strong leg from the Scotsman saw him claim the title and make the impressive Clemens wait even longer for a maiden PDC title.
