Wright returns to winning ways at German Darts Open following surgery: “Got a bit emotional last week but it’s great to be back”

Peter Wright returned to winning ways for the first time since surgery in an intriguing tie with Raymond van Barneveld at the German Darts Open in Jena.

It was a 6-3 win over 'Barney' with a 99.88 average, two 180's and 40% on the doubles as he moves through to face Jonny Clayton.

“I’ve had a few weeks off, I had the operation and got a bit emotional last week. But it’s great to be back in front of these amazing fans.

“I was saying to Barney there that I was lucky enough to be the man when he played in Ahoy when they announced him on stage and I had goosebumps and I remembered that time that I played Raymond. He’s absolutely fantastic, a lovely guy but the most important thing is that I’m in the next round.”

“I didn’t have my luggage when I got here so I only had one set of darts with me but when it did arrive I had a choice of six sets so it’s what mucked me up tonight.”
