Wright seals first European Tour in five years at German Darts Open: "Dimi's the future of darts, but the old guy is still doing it"

Peter Wright astonishingly broke a wait of five years for his next European Tour title by sealing the German Darts Open in Jena on Sunday evening.

Defeating Dimitri van den Bergh 8-6 after only returning last week from gallstones surgery, it marks his first title since February in a period where he always comes good.

Post match, he was full of praise for Van den Bergh despite them coming to blows as of late as well as the crowd in Germany.

“Dimitri is a fantastic player. He's the future of darts, but the old guy is still doing it!" claimed Wright.

“Last week I really fancied going to Hungary and winning the tournament, but I went out first round. I wasn’t good enough.

“Jena is a fantastic place to play though. The crowd get behind me and inspire me to play fantastic darts, and we wouldn’t be anywhere without these amazing fans."
