Van den Bergh on cause of near withdrawal before German Darts Open final: “During the game, my heart started to beat very fast - I thought Dimi what’s wrong”

Dimitri van den Bergh played his second final on the European Tour on Sunday evening. However, 'The Dreammaker' was left empty-handed, as the title at the German Darts Open went to Peter Wright 8-6.

After the semi-final, however, it was uncertain whether the Belgian could play the final at all. He started to feel unwell.

''During the game, my heart started to beat very fast. I thought, "Dimi, what's wrong?" I tried to bring it (the heartbeat) down again. Luckily my mates are here too and they tell me to calm down. What it was now, I don't know. Was it panic attack? I don't know,” said Van den Bergh.

''After I won in the semi-finals, I had the thought to give up. But you have to fight yourself. Congratulations to the winner Peter Wright. I fought until the end, but I persevered. I'm very proud of that. This second place gives me a proud feeling today.''
