Peter Wright will face off against
Jonny Clayton in the second semi-final at the
International Darts Open in Riesa with the victor set to face off against either Gerwyn Price or Nathan Aspinall later.
Wright held his nerve to edge past Michael Smith 6-5 with a 98.3 average and five 180's to reach the semi-finals after a quality contest with 'Bully Boy' which was a repeat of their recent World final with the same outcome.
He went 3-2 up to start the tie and despite Smith being on a 10-darter to break throw, he squandered three at doubles and Wright took out 80 to steal it.
This proved telling as Wright missed bull for a 170 checkout from there but swept up on double eight to move one away. Only for Smith to come back once more to break Wright's throw and throw for the match in the decider.
But a nightmare leg saw Smith leave himself on a bogey number and allowed Wright to romp away with it and pin double 12 for the win.
Next up will be Clayton who ended the run of Dimitri van den Bergh who prior to this tie had barely been troubled all weekend.
But his doubles deserted him and Clayton took full advantage for a 6-4 win with only 16% overall from 'The Dreammaker' who broke new ground this weekend by reaching the Quarter-Finals.
'The Ferret' will know improvement is needed though with only an 87 average, with two 180's and a high of a 108 checkout in the tie but for Wright, he will also have the World Number One spot on his mind with a potential showdown with Gerwyn Price for it in the final and Clayton will aim to stop that.
