The PDC's decision to invite both the top-16 of the world rankings and the top-16 of the Pro Tour Order of Merit to Euro Tour tournaments from now on is meeting a lot of resistance from players.
Several players have already been critical of the rule change with Vincent van der Voort now joining in. In conversation with Online Darts, 'The Dutch Destroyer' slammed the decision of the PDC. "This is very bad for the up-and-coming players. It is a really, really bad decision."
"It makes it difficult for players to come through. The European Tour used to be a learning school to play TV tournaments and this is a very bad decision. You can see it's a decision made by people who've never played darts. It's by businessmen. That's what goes wrong most of the time."
Van der Voort then pointed out that it is now also going to be very difficult for a player like Luke Littler to qualify for the World Matchplay this year, especially since he is already starting with a huge deficit.
''It's going to be very difficult to catch up to those players,'' Van der Voort says. "Really difficult for those players who aren't in the elite to get back into the game."
