The semi-final line-up is confirmed at the European Championship with Gerwyn Price set to face off against Michael Smith after coming through a thriller against Vincent van der Voort.
Price came through an absolute thriller against Van der Voort which saw both players produce magic on the big stage in Gottingen. It was ‘The Iceman’ who just had the edge though as he silenced the crowd and ended the run of the Dutch Destroyer.
It was a close game throughout and that showed with the start. Price went into the first break showing his composure by finishing 80 on double five to lead 3-2.
Van der Voort hit a 72 checkout to restore parity at 4-4 and the passage of play continued without no breaks as Van der Voort levelled up at 5-5 at the second break.
All legs continued to be on throw as Van der Voort levelled up at 6-6. Price would have thought his 170 checkout would have been the turning point though as he reeled in the biggest checkout of them all to produce a roar from the Welshman.
Despite that though, he missed the bull for back to back 170 checkouts and Van der Voort produced under pressure to break throw and go 8-7 behind. Van der Voort made it parity at 8-8 but Price surged forward towards the finishing line with a 72 checkout and from there concluded proceedings in a classic.
