Paul Lim failed to qualify for the PDC World Darts Championship via the PDC Asian Tour, but 'The Singapore Slinger' secured entry to the WDF World Championship at
Lakeside this week.
Lim qualifies for Lakeside via the Asia-Pacific ranking. The darter from Singapore managed to win the last two editions of the Ulaanbaatar Open, allowing Lim to rack up quite a few points. In the rankings, Lim left behind Jun Matsuda, Nitin Kumar and Man Lok Leung, among others.
The 70-year-old darts legend competed at Lakeside 12 times in the past, where he made history in 1990 with the first nine-darter ever at a world championship and the only perfect leg ever at Lakeside. Lim last competed at Frimley Green in 1994. Then he lost in the second round to John Part, who would take the world title that year.
In addition, Lim also participated in the PDC's World Darts Championship fourteen times. The 1997 World Darts Championship was the first that Lim played under the PDC banner. At the 2021 edition, the Asian caused another surprise by beating Luke Humphries in the first round. Three years ago, Lim last competed at Alexandra Palace. Then he lost in the first round 3-2 in sets to Joe Murnan.
