James Beeton has qualified for the second round of the WDF World Championship at Lakeside. The 21-year-old Englishman was too strong in the opening round 2-1 for his compatriot Bradley Kirk. In the next round he will take on ninth-seeded Swiss Thomas Junghans.
Beeton beamed afterwards. "I'm just feeling every sort of emotion possible. It's unbelievable! Best feeling I've had in darts ever," reflected Beeton in his post-match interview. "I'm not one of them dart players that thinks about history, I'm just not. But with the Lakeside, I mean every player you can think of has graced that stage."
Last year, Beeton saw a spot at the World Championship slip by at the last minute. "I think last year, now looking back in hindsight, it was the best thing ever you know. I didn't deserve to probably be in, I had too many early first round exits or second or third round exits, but I really do feel like this year, I've been really solid," he explains. "Having that phone call and knowing that you were in, best phone call you ever have in your life."
Beeton struggled with dartitis several years ago. "This is a sport where there's a lot more dark days than good days. That's the absolute reality whoever you are. You have to enjoy the good and today, tonight, I really will enjoy this," the Englishman concludes.
