Last weekend the silver ranked WDF Murray Bridge Grand Prix took place in Australia. The tournament had a surprising denouement in both the men's and women's events, although in the men's event there was an old friend who once again showed his class.
In the men's event it was
Peter Machin who claimed the title with conviction. In the final, the former BDO World Trophy champion was clearly one size too big for Tristan Bognar, whom he defeated 6-1. Machin recorded an impressive match average of 92.87. For the Australian, it marked his fourth final victory at the Murray Bridge Grand Prix, after also winning the tournament in 2016, 2019 and 2022.
In the ladies, an interesting final was scheduled between former winner Tori Kewish and the experienced Janine Cassar. Kewish, who won the tournament in 2017 and 2019, had to settle for second place this time. Cassar prevailed with a 5-3 victory, securing her second WDF rankings title. Her previous title dated back to 2006, when she managed to win the Australian Masters.
The WDF Murray Bridge Grand Prix once again proved to be an important stage for both established names and returning champions.
