At the WDF World Championship, we have now reached the fifth day. Today all matches from the second round are scheduled in both the men's and women's tournaments. Two-time world champion Beau Greaves will be in action for the first time.
Kicking off will be Benjamin Pratnemer and Carl Wilkinson. Pratnemer is the eighth series head this year and went down 2-0 against Davie Kirwan in the first round last year. The Slovenian was also there once at the PDC World Darts Championship, in 2020 he also went down in the first round there. Wilkinson defeated Jacob Taylor 2-0 in the first round.
Next, Desi Mercer and Jitka Cisarova take on each other in the women's tournament. New Zealand's Mercer is making her debut at this year's WDF World Cup; her Czech opponent defeated Anca Zijlstra 2-0 in the opening round.
Afterwards, ninth-ranked Thomas Junghans will make his first appearance at this World Cup. The Swiss, good for the last 16 last year, will meet 21-year-old Englishman James Beeton, who was too strong in the first round 2-1 to his compatriot Bradley Kirk.
Rounding out the afternoon session will be Jarno Bottenberg and Ryan Hogarth. Bottenberg impressed in the opening round by sending Matthew Edgar home 2-0. The fifteenth-seeded Hogarth is making his debut at a WDF Worlds, but has been to the BDO WC twice in the past.
Van Schie
The evening session will be kicked off by perhaps the top favorite in the men's tournament, Jimmy van Schie. The Dutchman won eight WDF ranking tournaments this year and will take on Björn Lejon in his opening match. The Swede defeated Patrik Kovacs 2-0 in the first round.
In the second match of the evening session, Beau Greaves will make her first appearance at this year's World Championship. The 20-year-old Englishwoman, who won the two previous editions of the WDF World Cup, will take on Kirsi Viinikainen. The Finnish was 2-0 too strong for Amanda Loch in the first round.
Beau Greaves makes first appearance on Tuesday
Next on the schedule is an all-Asian duel when Kai Fan Leung and Paul Lim take on each other. Leung, who plays for Hong Kong and is the seventh-ranked seed this World Championship, meets a living legend of the sport in Lim. The now 70-year-old Singaporean defeated Moreno Blom 2-0 in the opening round.
Rounding out the evening session will be Neil Duff and Reece Colley. Duff, WDF world champion in 2022, is seeded third this year and faces a potentially tough match against Colley. The 25-year-old Englishman defeated Darren Johnson 2-1 in the opening round and will be keen on a stunt victory against the former world champion.
