Luke Humphries has reached the final at the World Grand Prix with a masterclass of the highest order. 'Cool Hand Luke' crushed Ryan Joyce in the second semi-final 5-0 in sets and will therefore become Mike de Decker's opponent in the final.
Humphries had yet to show the back of his tongue this tournament, but showed Saturday night that the top form is definitely there. In five sets, Humphries only allowed his compatriot three legs. In this one though, Humphries' statistics are fabulous. An average of 100.30, and a finishing percentage of 60 percent. Furthermore, he threw eight 180-scores and "Cool Hand Luke" had an opening percentage of 47 percent.
After Humphries won the first set 3-0, Joyce created some tension only in the second set. 'Relentless' led 0-2 in that set, but Humphries still won it 3-2. The reigning world champion then won the third set 3-1 after a fine 144 finish.
The 29-year-old Englishman then started the fourth set with a 146 check-out while Joyce was waiting on double 10. Via a 13-darter and a 110 finish, set four also went 3-0 to Humphries.
Also in the fifth set, Joyce was not in the game. That set also went 3-0 to Humphries, allowing Humphries to try to retain his title at the World Grand Prix on Sunday night.
