Wesley Plaisier retains title at WDF World Masters

Wesley Plaisier has once again crowned himself winner of the WDF World Masters. The Dutch darter took the title at the prestigious World Darts Federation tournament by defeating Kai Gotthardt in the final.

Plaisier had advanced through the pool stage last Wednesday by defeating William McKendry (4-3), Ian Hiscock (4-1) and Wilfred Covey (4-0). He continued his tournament on Thursday with wins over Dennie Olde Kalter (5-2) and Shaun McDonald, before surviving a total of 11 matchdarts against Gyorgy Jehirszki (5-4), Barry Copeland (5-4) and Jimmy van Schie (5-4).

On Saturday, the semifinals and finals of the World Masters were played. In a Dutch semifinal, Plaisier proved too strong for Corne Groeneveld 6-3, while Gotthardt surprisingly eliminated the other title favorite Connor Scutt 6-5.

In the final against Gotthardt, Plaisier immediately broke ahead by throwing out 25 in the first leg. The next four legs went with the darts, after which Plaisier forced a second break in the seventh leg. The Dutchman then made it 6-2 with a 13-darter. Gotthardt kept in the match with an 11-darter, but that proved to be a reprieve. With a 14-darter in the tenth leg, Plaisier took the win 7-3.
