Darts icons of yesteryear can now be admired on the World Seniors Darts Tour. This organization has set up several tournaments for (famous) darters over the age of 50.
The WSDT has four televised tournaments on the schedule each year, which include such big names as Phil Taylor, Martin Adams, Robert Thornton, Keith Deller and John Part.
The third edition of the World Seniors Darts Championship will take place Feb. 15 to 18 at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet. This iconic playing venue previously hosted the PDC World Championship from 1994 through 2007.
The field of participants in the World Seniors Darts Championship consists of 32 players. Several former world champions and other major winners are part of the lineup. The first two editions of this event were won by Robert Thornton.
The Champion of Champions event was first on the WSDT calendar in 2023 and will return for a second edition in 2024. This tournament will take place on March 23 and 24 in Blackpool.
Seven of the eight starting spots are given by wildcard. The eighth starting spot can be earned through a qualifying tournament. Last year that qualifying tournament was won by Leonard Gates, who then also won Champion of Champions.
The World Seniors Matchplay will be played in the fall. The Barbican in York will host the event on October 4 and 5, where a total of 16 players can compete.
Fourteen wildcards will be handed out for this tournament. In addition, two more spots are available for qualifiers. Robert Thornton won the first edition of this tournament in 2022, while Gates was the best at the World Seniors Matchplay in 2023.
The final televised tournament of the year on the World Seniors Darts Tour is the World Seniors Darts Masters. This tournament will be held Nov. 8 and 9 in Houghton le Spring.
Also in this tournament, the field of participants consists of sixteen players. Twelve of them are invited by the organization, the remaining four participants are qualifiers. David Cameron surprisingly won the first edition in 2022 by defeating Phil Taylor in the final. In 2023, the title went to Leonard Gates.
