Leonard Gates suffers shock first round exit at the hands of Colin McGarry before Chris Mason battles past Darryl Fitton at World Seniors Darts Championship

The dominant force in Seniors Darts since his arrival, Leonard Gates was expected to have a deep run this weekend at the Circus Tavern. That's not transpired however as Colin McGarry has stunned the three-time WSDT major winner in the opening round.

In a slow start to the match for both, McGarry took the first set in legs of 19, 23 and 21 after Gates had taken the opening leg. The American stepped up his game in set 2 however and thanks in part to a 15 darter and a 13 darter, Gates levelled the match. All credit to McGarry from there on though. The Northern Irishman very smartly took set 3 in a deciding leg before romping to victory with a comfortable fourth set.

In the second tie of the night, Chris Mason battled back from a set down to Darryl Fitton to take a 3-1 victory, averaging over 85 in the process and reeling off nine of the last ten legs.
