Lisa Ashton created a sensation at the 2024
World Seniors Darts Championship by stunning former Lakeside champion,
Scott Mitchell with a clear, 3-0 victory.
Ashton had already won 3-2 in sets over Michael Huntley in the first round, which was her first victory over a man at a television tournament. 'The Lancashire Rose' has apparently now got the hang of it and let Mitchell know.
Mitchell still opened the match with an 11-darter in the first set, but could not find the double in the next two legs. Ashton hit the doubles and then took the set with a 14-darter.
Also in the second set Mitchell took the lead, and after Ashton made it 1-1 with a 15-darter, the doubles again let Mitchell down. Ashton took advantage and won the second set 3-1. Then the four-time women's world champion won set three 3-1.
Earlier in the afternoon,
John Henderson made it to the last eight at the World Seniors Darts Championship. The set went 3-1 to opponent
Kevin Painter, but after that it was Henderson who handled his chances on the doubles best. The Scot won three sets in a row, putting a 3-1 final score on the scoreboard.
