Scott Mitchell has been given the final wildcard for the World Seniors Darts Tour (WSDT) for the
World Seniors Matchplay. The event will take place on 2-3 September in York, England.
The field of competitors consists of 16 players. Defending champion at this tournament is Robert Thornton, who won 12-10 over Phil Taylor in last year's final.
Mitchell did not compete at the time because he held a PDC Tour Card at the time. The former Lakeside champion made his senior debut at the World Seniors Darts Championship early this year, where he lost to Thornton in the second round.
Richie Howson is also there at the World Seniors Matchplay. 'The Owl', who already reached three TV finals on the seniors circuit, did not receive a wildcard but qualifies via the so-called Money List Order of Merit.
Participants also include Phil Taylor and Martin Adams, who are still chasing their first major title at the World Seniors Darts Tour. John Part, David Cameron and Leonard Gates are the three North American participants.
Also taking part are former world champions Trina Gulliver, Neil Duff and Glen Durrant. The latter will play his first tournament since February. Kevin Painter and John Henderson will also be in action at the World Seniors Matchplay. 'The Artist' provisionally reached three semi-finals at TV tournaments on the senior circuit. Henderson will play a major tournament for the first time at the World Seniors Darts Tour.
The final four starting spots will be distributed during a qualifying weekend in Reading from 28 to 30 July.
