"My life is so much better without alcohol in it" - Refreshed Trina Gulliver enjoying herself again of WSDT return

The second edition of the World Seniors Matchplay will take place in York in early September. Trina Gulliver will take on Richie Howson in the opening round.

Gulliver is the only lady at this tournament. "For me it is an honour to be the first woman that has been invited to play in the WSDT events. It is always good to see more fellow lady players being involved/ invited into these events though," Gulliver said in conversation with the World Seniors Darts social media.

"I don't think I am making up the numbers, there is a lot of strength in depth in the WSDT circuit. I like to think I am there on merit with my 10 world titles and going on my previous performances in the WSDT, even though I might not have won a WSDT event so far, I plan to change that."

Alcohol addiction

Gulliver went through a difficult period in her personal life in recent years; for example, the 53-year-old Englishwoman struggled with alcohol addiction. "It is going to be a forever battle for me. However, things are a lot lot better, my life is so much better without alcohol in it. My perception and judgement of life was clouded by alcohol, and it is now refreshing that it no longer controls me."

"I am looking forward to celebrating, with a coffee, 4 years of sobriety in December. I would like to add that I am very grateful to everyone, family friends and fans that have supported me on my tough journey. The journey continues and I would advise anyone that feels they need help with addiction to reach out. Your life will be sooooooo much better for doing so. I know," Gulliver concludes.
