Today at the Circus Tavern, the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship gets underway, and immediately some very well-known and recognisable faces from the world of darts will be in action in the opening round.
There's just one session of darts from Essex on the opening day, starting at 7pm local time, with the action available to watch via the BBC iPlayer/BBC Sport website or app, on TNT Sports 5, or via the subscription service Discovery+.
Opening up the session, and the tournament as a whole, is the legendary three-time world champion John Part. 'Darth Maple' has had limited success on the Seniors Circuit to date, and in Jim McEwan, the Canadian faces off against one of the Seniors who are still incredibly active. McEwan put up a good fight at Q-School earlier this year, before ultimately falling short of gaining a PDC Tour Card, but is regularly in action on the MODUS Super Series and elsewhere.
Kevin Edwards v Michael Huntley
The next match might not have the star power of some of the other ties in the draw, but don't sleep on either Kevin Edwards or Michael Huntley. The Seniors Tour has become about more than just giving the stars of yesteryear another chance to shine, and at the iconic Circus Tavern, both Edwards and Huntley will now get a chance to record a big TV win and set up a second round tie against multiple Seniors title winner, Leonard Gates.
One of the newcomers to the World Seniors Tour, Simon Whitlock makes a much-anticipated World Seniors Darts Championship debut later this evening. After failing to regain his PDC Tour Card at Q-School, the Aussie is continuing his career away from the Pro Tour, but won't have it all his own way against 'Crocodile Dundee' Paul Hogan. The experienced Englishman can be a threat for anyone on his day, making this one of the more intriguing contests in the first round.
Finally, firm fan favourite Tony O'Shea goes up against women's darting legend Lisa Ashton to round off the night. Ashton has already proven herself as a genuine challenger for Seniors events, reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 World Seniors Darts Championship. Fresh off the back of picking up a PDC Women's Series title last week, 'The Lancashire Rose' is likely to start as the favourite against O'Shea.
