Derk Telnekes held off Dutch compatriot Chris Landman to reach the first round at the Lakeside.
The 22-year-old put in an impressive performance to win the preliminary tie 3-0. The three sets were closely fought, but Netherlands international Landman was unable to deal with Telnekes' scoring and prolific double 18 hitting.
Telnekes was forced into a decider every time, but kept his cool to beat Landman to the punch every time. The Countryman had his chances, but it is Telnekes who will take on Geert de Vos in the first round.
