The first two ties of the World Series of Darts Finals have been completed with Jonny Clayton and Ian White successfully through to face the seeds.

Both had to work hard for it though. Clayton edged out Wayne Jones but had to produce a comeback in order to defeat him.

Jones went 3-1 up in quick succession with a 101 average at the time including an 11-darter to bring himself that two leg cushion.

Clayton though kept himself in proceedings at the interval going 3-2 behind. ‘The Ferret’ produced some brilliant finishes of 75 and 76 to hit the front at 4-3 up and from there he went 5-3 up to really heap the pressure on Jones to hit back.

‘The Wanderer’ stopped the rot to close the gap at 5-4 behind; but Clayton squeezed through to a second round tie with James Wade, the defending champion.

White didn’t have to produce a comeback but he had to survive one in defeating Ricky Evans in the second match of the evening.

‘Diamond’ produced a brilliant 140 checkout to show he was in business at 2-0 up but he started to make a real mess of the finishing from there and at the interval it was 3-2 to White.

More missed darts saw it up at three-all but it was Evans turn to miss as White went 4-3 and then 5-4 up and seemingly on the verge of victory.

He couldn’t pounce the initial opportunity though and Evans forced a decider. White played well to get himself to a finish but Evans heaped the pressure on with an excellent 171. The Stoke ace didn’t buckle though getting himself over the line.
