Steve Beaton has knocked out eighth seed James Wade in a brilliant performance to move through to the Last 16 at the PDC World Championship for the first time in 15 years.
Beaton went 2-0 up quite quickly and had to absorb pressure from Wade but ultimately played brilliant to keep his cool and roll back the eyars once again with a 92 checkout and 52 percent on the doubles.
Beaton was terrific in the first set taking it 3-1 with both players averaging about 91 at the time but with Wade being seen as a likely easy winner, it was a dream start for 'The Bronzed Adonis'.
Wade though came back to his clinical best pinning 125 followed by 122 as he went 2-0 up but looked annoyed when Beaton held his through but he looked like he would ease to the set which he didn't as he missed darts at double 20 allowing Beaton to break.
To start the next leg on throw, he hit a 180 and despite pressuring with it, Beaton hit a double 16 to go two sets up.
He broke to start the next set with a 100 checkout as he aimed to go three sets up and potentially to the point of no return.
Wade hit a 24 checkout though to break throw and put the set back up in the air and he held throw to go one away. Beaton sent it to a decider though which Wade had the throw in.
Beaton missed 80 for the set and Wade hit 56 to go 2-1 behind. It went with throw to begin the next set as Wade hit a 70 checkout to make it 1-1.
Beaton missed a 109 checkout on the bull but Wade couldn't finish 76 allowing another few chances which meant he pinned double nine to hold throw.
Wade missed a 102 checkout to pull it back and Beaton hit a 81 checkout to go 3-1 up in sets. Wade started the next set on his typical double 20 as he went 1-0 up in legs and from there he hit five to go 2-0 up and from there he closed out the set to go 3-2 behind.
Beaton took out 86 on the bull in the next set though and showed emotion to go one away from victory. Wade missed double 20 to tie it up and Beaton hit 43 to claim the victory.
