Dawson Murschell's long quest to become world champion has begun.
The Canadian ace earned his first Tour Card after winning on day four of UK Q-School. After success in Wigan, Murschell now wants to emulate compatriot and two-time world champion John Part.
"The only goal I have ever set myself is to become World Champion," said Murschell, "So I'm going to give it my all and see what happens."
The 22-year-old from Medicine Hat in Alberta beat seven opponents on Sunday to earn his spot on the PDC Pro Tour. First, Murschell saw off Ben Simpson, Ronnie Roberts and Luke Woodhouse. Then Matt Dicken was felled, before Murschell won through in a nine-leg thriller against Keith Geraghty. A 5-2 defeat of Matthew Edgar followed, before a semi-final meeting with Terry Temple. It was far from a tense affair, as both had already secured Tour Cards through the Q-School Order of Merit. But the young Canadian still needed all nine legs to take the win and a coveted automatic spot.
"I knew I was in a good position but I wanted to win it outright, so I'm really glad to do that," Murschell said.
"I felt the pressure but once I got going I came out swinging and started to play well."
The rising star burst onto the PDC scene last year, when he appeared in the US Darts Masters. The Canadian stunned James Wade before falling to Gerwyn Price. Thanks to his Q-School success, the tour's top talent will be hearing a lot more of Dawson Murschell.

- It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). - Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media. I blame the PDC to a certain extent though doubt they really care as they win regardless of which player wins or loses.Mysstree16-11-2024

I even turned to my husband and said "Could you imagine this happening if Russ Bray was the referee tonight? At least there would have been a crowd admonishment- Ladies and Gentleman please."
