James Wade returned to form defeating rising PDC star Daryl Gurney in the Quarter-Finals of the Auckland Darts Masters 10-7. Despite a late rally from Superchin, the Aldershot ace got over the line to book a place in the Semi-Finals vs either Simon Whitlock or Kyle Anderson.
Wade started well and finish on D20 for the first leg but Gurney hit back holding his throw to make it 1 a piece. Gurney started the following leg with a 180 but Wade's two 140's in a row allowed him to take out 50 but he was pegged back when wiring a 150 checkout, Gurney then took out D1. Despite an average of 89, Wade went into the break 3-2 up taking out 60.
When back from the interval, it went back to level pegging but Wade like in the previous leg wired a checkout this time 170 meaning that Gurney finished 61 to make it 3-3. The pair traded 180's in the following leg but Gurney hit a 100 finish & took it out last dart in hand to break and make it 4-3.
Wade broke straight back though hitting D15 first time to make it 4-4. Wade rose his average to 102 and held his throw hitting his trademark D10. He followed that up by breaking the Gurney throw again to take firm control of this Quarter Final with the D10 again.
Wade continued his return to form in the following leg hitting D10 to move 7-4 up and in the following leg blasted in a 124 checkout to go 8-4 up.

It wasn't all going to go to the Machine as following that Gurney broke to stop the rot at 8-5 and continued on holding his throw on D12. Gurney followed this up with a stunning 130 checkout to make it 8-7. Gurney missed darts at double in the following leg and Wade put in D9 to break at 9-7 and he finished it off with D10 to win 10-7.
