First up on the Frankfurt stage are Belgium and Finland. The two European nations had a very different first round experience. Kim Huybrechts and Dimitri van den Bergh were pushed all the way by the Republic of Ireland. Their nervy 5-4 success in what Huybrechts called a "classic" contrasts heavily with Finland's impressive 5-1 thrashing of Greece. Marko Kantele and Kim Viljanen will be quietly confident of edging out the former
PDC World Cup of Darts finalists.
The second meeting in the evening is between second seeds England and unanimous fan favourites Singapore. Watching fans were delighted when Paul Lim and Harith Lim again showed class to see off New Zealand. They won't fear the English pair of Rob Cross and Dave Chisnall. The English duo were comfortable in beating the Czech Republic. They won't be comfortable tonight.
Northern Ireland and Germany then take to the Frankfurt stage in a repeat of last year's thriller. There was needle abound when Daryl Gurney and Brendan Dolan met Max Hopp and Martin Schindler. The same pairs remain, so hopefully the drama sticks around as well. Germany prevailed last year, so the Northern Irish are out for revenge.
In the final second round clash, the Netherlands continue their title defence. Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld were imperious in a whitewash of Gibraltar. That doesn't bode well for Devon Petersen and Liam O'Brien, though both performed well against Hungary.
Play begins at 6pm, and is live on Sky Sports.
