BDO star
Ross Montgomery has high hopes of causing a surprise or two going into the
Grand Slam of Darts.
The Scotland captain makes his debut in
PDC competitions at the Wolves Civic.
The prospect of playing PDC world champion Michael van Gerwen, plus young talents Rob Cross and Joe Murnan, does not faze Montgomery.
"It's a tough group, but there are no easy ones," the East Kilbride thrower told pdc.tv.
'The Boss' begins against defending Grand Slam champion van Gerwen in Group A, but believes he could spring a surprise.
"With the short format in the group stages, it's a great leveller. In the BDO we are used to best of nine legs, so every match we play is vital to start well," the 55 year-old said.
Montgomery has previously struggled in televised majors, but is confident of putting in a good performance.
"I'm playing well, I'm up to world number five in the BDO and I go into the Grand Slam knowing that I can get results," he said.
