On September 2 and 3, the 2023 World Seniors Matchplay will be played. In addition to Phil Taylor, Robert Thornton, Neil Duff, Richie Howson, John Henderson and John Part - just to name a few -
Glen Durrant will also participate in this tournament.
After his successes in 2019 and 2020, things have been quiet around the Englishman. He was infected with the virus himself during the corona pandemic and never got back to his old self after that.
Duzza spoke during his coaching session with Germany's Daniela Dambek about the reasons for this. She, too, especially has problems with the mental aspect of darts, she openly told dartsnews.de.
"You have to turn off your thought. He (Durrant, e.d.) knows that himself. I understand very well the problems he has. He told me himself, he has problems with his head."
Beyond that, it's only little things Durrant was able to impart to her during his coaching with the German player. "He said to me, 'Your pitching style is already pretty good.' That sounds pretty good. It's just little things I need to change," she says of her meeting with Durrant.
"But to get that in now, that's not so easy. I tried that at home after coaching and then didn't throw well. Then it goes back around in the head anyway.''
By this, however, Dambek is not referring to the negative thinking aspect that many players struggle with when things are not going well. "I just don't see it myself sometimes, that's the problem. I play a bit by feel and sometimes I can't judge if things have gone well.''
Before Dambek met with Durrant for coaching, she had already met him at a few demonstrations and discussed a problem or two about her pitching.
"There he had already said it looked good and all that, but with this coaching he went into a little more detail. There are just some little things that need to be done. But it still needs to be worked on..."
