Van Veen qualifies for two editions of Grand Slam of Darts in one weekend and gains huge financial boost

Gian van Veen had a very lucrative weekend. The Dutchman first experienced a fine finale of the PDC Development Tour 2023 and then also put in good performances during the start of the PDC World Youth Championship.

On Friday and Saturday, the last four Development Tour tournaments of the season were played. Van Veen was in a fierce battle with Luke Littler for first place on the Development Tour ranking. This battle was decided in favour of the Dutchman. Van Veen won one of the remaining titles and earned a total of £3,450 from the last four Development Tour tournaments.

Because of his final victory on the Development Tour Order of Merit, the 21-year-old dart player from Poederoijen is at once assured of participating in the Grand Slam of Darts 2023 and the World Darts Championship, although Van Veen will almost certainly also qualify through the Pro Tour ranking for the tournament in Alexandra Palace. In any case, Van Veen is assured of £12,500 of ranking money later this year with participation in the aforementioned majors.

On Sunday, Van Veen made another financial and sporting hit. He qualified for the final of the PDC World Youth Championship, among other things by eliminating defending champion Josh Rock and compatriot Wessel Nijman.

By reaching this final, Van Veen is also certain to participate in the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts, which again will yield at least £5,000. The final place at the PDC World Youth Championship also earns at least £5,000, with winning the final on Nov. 26 against Luke Littler even increasing that amount to £10,000.

All in all, Van Veen tallied a total of £25,950 last weekend, of which £22,500 count toward the PDC Order of Merit. It seems very likely that we will be able to admire the new Dutch emerging talent on the PDC circuit until at least 2026.
