The first two quarter-finals on Night 15 of the
Premier League Darts in Sheffield are complete with both
Gerwyn Price and
Chris Dobey securing wins and progression to semi-finals at the expense of
Nathan Aspinall and
Peter Wright respectively.
First up it was Gerwyn Price who could secure a top-of-the-table finish tonight if results went his way, up against 'the Asp' Nathan Aspinall who was looking to keep his playoff hopes alive. Starting as he meant to go on Price fired in an emphatic 158 finish to break throw in the opening leg of the match.
Pinning Tops for a 13-darter in the second leg and Price was suddenly 2 up. Tops again was Price's friend in the following leg as Price moved three clear averaging 109. Holding throw for a 4-0 lead, the Welshman was showing some imperious form.
Aspinall got himself on the board at 4-1, nailing double 7 to finish off an 88 finish and keep his hopes alive. Price though was looking like he just wouldn't miss. Taking out double top at the first time of asking yet again, Price was 5 out of 5 on the doubles as he moved one away from victory. Showing great fight, Aspinall made the Welshman wait, and pulled back to 5-2. The Iceman would not be denied however and he cleaned up 81 in two darts for the win with an average of 111 and 100% on his doubles.
Chris Dobey versus Peter Wright was the next match and although both players were guaranteed to miss out on the top 4, the possibility of avoiding the wooden spoon meant there was still much to play for. It was Dobey that started the better of the two, firing in a 180 with his first three darts before sealing an 11-dart hold of throw to go one up.
Breaking throw in the second leg, Dobey moved two ahead early on. After 'Hollywood' missed the bullseye for a three leg lead, Wright punished and showed Dobey how it was done, nailing the bull to take his first leg of the match. Mopping up a 60 checkout, Wright was then back all square.
Dobey would then miss two darts at double 9 to regain his lead allowing Wright to punish once again and take a third straight leg. A 124 finish, again taken out on the bull kept Wright's run going as he moved 4-2 ahead. Dobey stopped the rot on double 16 to pull back to within one and the Englishman would then follow that by cleaning up 22 to level things.
With both players missing opportunities to go within a leg of the match it was Dobey who would eventually hit double 1 for a 5-4 lead. Nailing double 19 for a checkout of 98 in the following leg, Dobey would secure the win.
