Michael van Gerwen failed to win a match in the
Premier League Darts for the fourth matchday in a row. The 34-year-old Dutchman went down 6-5 against Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals of the eighth match day.
Van Gerwen, who has been battling Viaplay for the past two weeks, did respond calmly this time to questions from reporter Arjan van der Giessen. "I let him run far away quickly and then you have to deal with that. At times I show good play, but very often I don't do the right things at the right moments," Van Gerwen said.
Price also came to Dublin with little confidence, going down in his opening match each of the past four weeks. "You can see by his attitude that he is struggling," Van Gerwen said. "I have to strike then, but I failed to do that. The fighter's mentality was there. It's a shame I didn't reward myself. Then you get the lid on the nose."
Despite the new defeat, Van Gerwen remained positive: "I felt very good. Losing is always painful, but we are on the right track. Last week and in this match I'm not playing bad at all."
Van Gerwen is still second in the Premier League Darts standings after eight of 16 days of play, seven points off leader Luke Humphries.
