Andrew Gilding, Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen have all booked their spot in the last 16 of the Baltic Sea Darts Open in Kiel this Saturday evening.
Former UK Open champion Gilding has struggled on the European Tour so far this year but Goldfinger added to the recent woes of Peter Wright with a 6-2 win over the former world champion. After losing the opening leg, Gilding rattled off the next five in succession and although Wright did get one back, there was no comeback on the cards with 'Goldfinger' sealing victory with a 16-darter finished on tops.
For Humphries, fresh off the back of Premier League success in Leeds, things were always comfortable against Sebastian Bialecki. Averaging 103, fourteen points more the his opponent, Humphries fired three maximums and pinned a 142 checkout en route to victory.
After Wessel Nijman dispatched an out of sorts Luke Littler on Friday night, he would have had high hopes against Michael van Gerwen. Sadly for the talented Dutch youngster, van Gerwen was in no mood to mess around. Racing into a 3-1 lead averaging northwards of 111 van Gerwen was strong and despite his average eventually dropping to a 'mere' 107.78, the former world champion ran out a comfortable 6-2 winner.
