The Dutchman defeated England’s Henry Coates 5-3 in the final to secure his maiden title on the circuit, but the wider significance stretches beyond a single result.
Frauenfelder is now the 20th different Dutch player to win a Challenge Tour event, reinforcing the country’s extraordinary depth at this level of the sport.
The Challenge Tour remains one of the most important proving grounds within the PDC system, offering players without a Tour Card the chance to break through. For Dutch players in particular, it has repeatedly served as a launchpad.

Dutch depth backed up by proven winners

That long-standing strength is reflected clearly in the all-time winners’ list. Christian Kist and Berry van Peer lead the way with five titles each, setting the benchmark for consistency on the circuit. Wesley Plaisier follows with four, while Danny van Trijp, Jan Dekker and Jurjen van der Velde have each collected three titles.
Further down the list, Alexander Merkx and Ron Meulenkamp have also secured multiple wins, highlighting how success on the Challenge Tour has been spread across a wide group of players rather than concentrated at the very top.

What makes Frauenfelder’s win stand out is not just the result itself, but what it represents. The total number of Dutch winners continuing to rise points to a system that keeps producing players capable of stepping up and delivering titles.

No sign of slowing down

That pipeline shows little sign of slowing. The Netherlands continues to produce both established names and emerging talents who can compete deep into tournaments and convert opportunities into silverware. Frauenfelder now becomes the latest to take that step, adding his name to a list that continues to grow year after year.
The Challenge Tour season moves on quickly, with two more events scheduled for Saturday and one on Sunday. By the end of the 24-event campaign, the stakes rise significantly. The top two players in the Order of Merit will earn a PDC Tour Card for the next two years, while the top three will qualify for the World Championship. The overall winner will also book a place at the Grand Slam of Darts.
