For the third week running, Michael van Gerwen come up short in the semi-finals at the 2025 Premier League Darts, this time in Dublin. In the Irish capital, things went wrong in the semifinal against Nathan Aspinall.
Also in the past two weeks, 'Mighty Mike' stranded in the semifinals. In Belfast, Luke Humphries proved too strong in the last four, while Van Gerwen came up against a strong Luke Littler in Glasgow last week.
Van Gerwen had to take a break already in the first leg, after Aspinall got off to a strong start with a 12-darter. The Asp' then kept his own leg and made it 2-0. The Englishman even missed a chance at 3-0, after which Van Gerwen managed to get on the scoreboard with a 13-darter.
Aspinall wasn't at his best in tve next leg, but the Dutchman could not take advantage. This allowed Aspinall to make it 3-1 with a 74 finish. After Van Gerwen missed four doubles in the fifth leg, Aspinall even grabbed a second break via double 5.
That break was immediately taken back by Van Gerwen, but the three-time world champion also immediately gave back his own leg. A 14-darter gave Aspinall a 5-2 lead, after which Van Gerwen kept in the match with a 13-darter. Mighty Mike couldn't do anything in the ninth leg and saw Aspinall take the win with a 14-darter.
The Stockport-based darter will play Gerwyn Price in the weekly final later this evening. Neither player has yet featured in a weekly final of the 2025 Premier League Darts this season. Both players did win weekly titles in the past. Price won two weekly titles in 2022 and as many as four in 2023. Aspinall won his first weekly title in 2023 and then managed to add two more weekly titles to his total in 2024.
