Nathan Aspinall has won Night 5 of the 2024
Premier League Darts. 'The Asp' was too strong for Rob Cross in the final in Exeter, 6-2.
Aspinall, however, had a difficult start to the Premier League Darts campaign with three opening match defeats on the first three nights of play. Only last week did he manage to win his first matches, when he reached the final. "Obviously, it was a slow start to the season but last week was massive for myself," Aspinall reflected on stage after the final. "I made the decision tonight to forget about double 16 because I've missed it so many times. I went for tops and I hit it more times than not so I'm really happy."
"The last two weeks I've really dug deep. Everyone knows I'm a fighter and I've been down the first few weeks but final and a win the last two weeks... I'm over the moon," the 32-year-old Englishman continued. "Me and Peter Wright have been getting a lot of criticism on social media for being put in the Premier League. But I like proving people wrong and that was my plan."
Aspinall is now fourth in the standings. "I've been down in the dumps but I've shown my fighting spirit the last two weeks. Granted, I've not performed at the level that I know I'm capable of, but my god do I dig deep and that's kick-started my season."
