Gerwyn Price recently caused a stir by challenging American influencer Jake Paul to a boxing match, predicting he could knockout Paul with one punch. Given the Welshman's physique, it's not unthinkable, but according to Vincent van der Voort, Price would be shocked if the fight ever came to fruition.
Jake Paul recently went up against and beat, former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. Price, however, was far from impressed and the Welsh powerhouse, a former professional rugby player, promptly challenged Paul to a boxing match. “That’s easy. I look forward to that. He’s a YouTuber; he’s not a fighter, is he?" Price laughed to TalkSport. "He’ll never beat me in Wales. Nobody beats me in Wales. He’d probably beat Canelo (if they fought in Mexico), but he’s not beating me, no. I think it would just be one punch, and it would be all over. Out cold."
Vincent van der Voort indicated in the podcast 'Darts Draait Door' though, that he gives little credence to Price's words. "I can just challenge him too you know, it won't happen anyway," Van der Voort said.
Podcast host Damian Vlottes raises the possibility that Paul, through his Dutch girlfriend, may yet learn of Van der Voort's statements and take him up on the challenge. "I just make an impossible contract, that will never be signed," the 49-year-old Dutchman can laugh smugly about it.
Van der Voort the returns his focus to Price's statements. "Gerwyn is a strong guy, but people should make no mistake that being strong has nothing to do with boxing. Fighting is different from boxing. So I assume this was a joke (from Price, ed.). Paul boxes every day. It has to do with technique, footwork, combinations and game intelligence. Price has never boxed before. Therefore, I don't assume he wins," Van der Voort concludes.
