The sixth event of the 2025 European Tour takes place this weekend in Sindelfingen, Germany — and it’s already turning into a graveyard for seeded players at the European Darts Grand Prix.
For several years, players have often remarked that the strength in depth on the tour has only increased — that, on any given day, anyone can beat anyone. That sentiment has played out dramatically in Sindelfingen. Of the 16 seeded players, just seven have managed to reach the final day, with a string of big names crashing out earlier than expected.
Second seed Michael van Gerwen was one of the first high-profile casualties, falling at the first hurdle against fellow Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode. He was soon joined on the sidelines by Jonny Clayton, Stephen Bunting, Damon Heta, Nathan Aspinall, Chris Dobey, Dave Chisnall, Gerwyn Price and Josh Rock — all of whom failed to make it past round two.
Top seed Luke Humphries has safely progressed to the third round. 'Cool Hand Luke' swept aside Connor Scutt 6–1 in the second round and will now face 16th seed Michael Smith, who also remains in the hunt after navigating a tricky second-round tie.
Third seed Rob Cross and tenth seed James Wade have also booked their places in the last 16, keeping their hopes of lifting the title alive. Peter Wright (12th seed), Danny Noppert (13th seed) and Gary Anderson (14th seed) round out the list of seeded players still standing.
With so many big names falling early, the tournament now looks wide open heading into the final day. Plenty of unseeded players will fancy their chances of a deep run — and perhaps even a shock title win — as the European Darts Grand Prix reaches its business end. Follow all the action and updates from Sindelfingen right here throughout the day!
