The
European Tour is descending on Antwerp this weekend. The first edition of the
Flanders Darts Trophy will take place at the Antwerp Expo. This is the tenth tournament of the European Tour 2024.
Besides several other top players, the Belgian crowd is especially looking forward to the performance of
Dimitri Van den Bergh, the current world number twelve. Van den Bergh hopes to perform strongly there in front of his home crowd. "It's a fantastic feeling to be able to play in front of my own crowd," Van den Bergh said in an interview with
VTM. "My family will also be there, so I'm really hoping for a good result as well. My merit that we now have a second Euro Tour stage in Belgium? Gosh, that's certainly not just my merit. There are plenty of Belgians who have done well internationally. My luck is that my good performance just coincides with the period when darts gets a lot of attention in Belgium."
Darts has become hugely popular in Belgium in recent years and that has not escaped Van den Bergh's notice by any means. "On the way to this interview I was recognized a few times anyway and posed for a few pictures. Before, that was never the case, now constantly. Just to say: it lives in Belgium. And I would love to do a top performance here. I'm still waiting for a Euro Tour victory, that's what I'm after."

The 30-year-old Belgian was still active at the World Series tournaments in Australia and New Zealand last month and also has a busy calendar ahead of him this fall. "I admit honestly: I do need some vacation," he says honestly. "When that will follow, I really don't know. That's okay, too: I'm busy fulfilling my dreams and building a future for my family."
