Raymond van Barneveld and Roland Scholten are contemporaries. The two Dutchmen were first active in the BDO for many years and then also competed side by side in the PDC for the major titles.

Van Barnelveld (year of birth 1967) and Scholten (year of birth 1965) are only two years apart, used to regularly travel together with the Dutch national team and thus know each other extremely well. Yet they have not spoken to each other for quite some time now.

"Some things happened in our career. I'm always very black and white and very honest with everybody. Whether it's a friend or an enemy. There are things that have happened that are not acceptable with me," Scholten said to the podcast'Double Top'.

Scholten has made peace with it, though, and is also not waiting for a call from his compatriot to talk things out. "I'm not waiting for him to come over for coffee anymore. At some point I'm done with it. And that's okay, too, because you can't get through the same door with everyone."

Nice things

To Scholten's credit, however, he never otherwise expresses himself negatively about Van Barneveld, and he also admits that they have experienced a lot of particularly nice things together. "For example in 1993, when we got an invitation together to play at the then WDC. We had doubts about that switch, mainly because of the payment of prize money. Empty envelopes were handed out. There was payout in shares, but of course we just wanted to see money. That makes sense if you're trying to make your hobby your profession."

The now 59-year-old Scholten ended his career with the PDC in 2013. He managed to win the 2004 UK Open, the only major of his career. In recent years, he was still sporadically in action on the World Seniors Darts Tour, without too much success, however.
