Luke Littler was in tears after he lost the
German Darts Championship final narrowly, but for more unfortunate reasons than Peter Wright earlier in the night who sealed the title.
Wright burst into tears after he defeated Michael van Gerwen with a 109 average exclaiming that he was back. But Littler who watched as Wright reeled off six straight legs while he was averaging upwards of 110 at times breaking the 180 record too wasn't upset due to defeat he confirmed.
"He wouldn't go away. I threw my best and he threw his best. Maybe it would have changed on the 150 if no one whistled, but that's what they do," said Littler on stage.
"Fair play to Peter, he's played well all weekend and so have I, but I've just got to take it on the chin."
He explained that his best friend's father had passed away in the days prior which was playing on his mind before he cut away in floods of tears as Master of Ceremonies, Philip Brzezinski tried to console him. But the situation was criticized on social media with Wright being asked further questions as Littler stood away from the oche crying instead of the interviews being cut short.
He later took to Instagram to explain the situation and that he wasn't looking for sympathy as well as that in the case of the match, he merely couldn't get the job done as he would've liked.
"Not looking for sympathy or anything I was just trying to say how my best mate has lost his dad at such a young age. I've known Ellis since we were both (3 or 4) and it's been on my mind all week. The strongest lad I know. Just couldn't get the job done as I would have liked," he said on Instagram.
