Jonny Clayton is the 2021
Premier League Darts champion after defeating
Jose de Sousa 11-5 in the final to conclude an incredible debut campaign for 'The Ferret'.
Coming into the Premier League as a late addition after winning The Masters, he becomes the first player to finish fourth to claim the title taking his play-off run down to the wire.
After defeating Michael van Gerwen earlier, he saw off his fellow debutant to claim a second TV title of the year and £250,000 to boot. An amazing 2021 continues for the Welshman.
De Sousa claimed first blood with a 180 and double 20 but it was Clayton who hit the front first with a break.
He took out his usual memo of 121 on the bull to level up before double nine to make it 2-1 as his average went upwards of 110.
He moved two clear at 3-1 and continued to maintain his cushion with holds of throw but Clayton claimed a double break albeit in starting a sequence which saw him not able to consolidate this.
De Sousa held on to his coattails at 6-4 down with a 100 checkout but this is when the sequence of breaks began.
Clayton took out 98 for a 7-4 lead only for De Sousa to immediately hit back at 7-5 but he finally consolidated it pinning double 10 last dart in hand at 9-5.
From there, it was yet another break which saw the writing on the wall at 10-5 up with a 62 checkout and Clayton had a match dart from 112 to seal it but returned after De Sousa couldn't pin a 127 on the bull and 'The Ferret' hit double eight which to claim his crowning glory.
