The darts calendar gets busier every year, but in their rare moments of free time, several players enjoy gaming. Among those is Michael van Gerwen, who was even recently challenged to an online game by an Olympic gold medalist on social media.

During a Q&A session on Instagram, Van Gerwen was asked about his favourite pastime. "I enjoy playing on the PlayStation. I mostly play one game: Call of Duty," said the 35-year-old Dutchman.

He then elaborated on what he finds so appealing about the game. "I can't wait for Verdansk to return. Everyone here is probably wondering what I'm talking about, but all Call of Duty players will know exactly what I mean. Verdansk needs to come back."

For the gaming enthusiasts: Verdansk was the original map where the first Warzone was set. It was removed from the game in 2021 and replaced with other locations. But there’s good news for Van Gerwen—Verdansk is making its return to Call of Duty Warzone on April 3.

One person who saw Van Gerwen’s video on Instagram was Dutch speed skater Kjeld Nuis, who is also a big fan of the game. "Come play," he wrote in the comments.

Nuis, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, currently has some time to game, as the speed skating season has come to an end. At the recent World Championships in Hamar, he finished without a medal—though it’s worth noting that he wasn’t in peak condition after suffering a foot injury. He sustained the injury at a World Cup event in Thialf after kicking a chair in frustration. On top of that, he was hit by a scooter while riding his road bike last Wednesday.

As for Van Gerwen, it remains to be seen how much free time he’ll have in the coming months. He’s still competing in the Premier League Darts, with plenty of European Tour and Players Championship events also on his schedule.
