Damian Mol managed to win the pairs tournament of the Dutch Open together with
Brian Raman. In an interview with Double Top, the 25-year-old Dutchman and his Belgian pairs partner talked about taking the title and plans for the upcoming season.
Damian Mol was originally scheduled to play in the pairs tournament with Dutch-American Jules van Dongen, but because the latter picked up a PDC Tour Card meaning Mol had to find a new partner. Then he was approached by Brian Raman, who like Mol had lost his Tour Card to throw tournament together. The pair had to make two long days toward the final victory. ''They are hefty days, it's a lot of matches. Brian I think can agree that we had some very spicy matches, both in terms of the level and the support for our opponents.''
In the final, Mol and Raman defeated the pair of Jimmy van Schie and Jeroen Mioch 5-1 in legs. Mol in particular impressed in the final, throwing an individual average of 106. "Of course you are very proud to win such a big tournament. The level is perhaps less than on the Pro Tour, but the large field says enough about how we played over the two days."
Mol held a Tour Card for the past two years, but failed to do enough to keep it. In the finals of European Q-School, he came up just short with 5 points not enough to regain his Tour Card. The result of the final on the last day of Q-School decided whether Mol would get his Tour Card or not.''I followed that final in the car via DartConnect. When I saw the result I went home immediately.''
So Mol is currently not a Tour Card holder, but still sees the PDC as his main goal. ''I am currently playing on the Challenge Tour and working towards next year's Q-School. Maybe it's not so crazy to have a gap year to gain experience and regain confidence.'' Making it to Lakeside is not a main goal for Mol however. ''The Open Antwerp I will throw. Should I get far there and then get a good ranking, I will consider making longer trips to qualify for the
WDF World Championship.''
