The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has confirmed that Austrian dart player
Rusty-Jake Rodriguez has been provisionally suspended following a failed doping test during Players Championship 24, which took place on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025.
Rodriguez was randomly tested during the tournament. The results of that test were found to be abnormal, after which the
DRA immediately intervened. The DRA imposed a provisional suspension, barring Rodriguez from participating - or even attending - events covered by the DRA indefinitely.
According to the DRA's disciplinary regulations, such an interim measure is standard procedure. The suspension remains in effect until the full investigation and subsequent disciplinary proceedings are completed. Only then will a final judgment follow, which, depending on the outcome, may lead to further sanctions.
The 24-year-old younger brother of Rowby-John Rodriguez, considered one of the most promising talents in international darts, enjoyed a rise on the PDC circuit in recent years and was seen as part of a new generation of European players making their mark on the professional circuit. This doping test, however, puts a big damper on his immediate future and his long-term ambitions.
Rodriguez has the right to appeal. In accordance with DRA rules, he can challenge both the validation of the test and the decision of provisional suspension. In that case, an independent commission will review the case. The DRA has indicated that it will not release any further details while the investigation is ongoing.
