Luke Humphries was in epic form as he downed Nathan Aspinall in Nottingham in the Night 7 final of the
Premier League Darts and he now tops the table having won two nights in a row. But after early adversity to his reign as World Champion, it is very much the only way is up for Humphries in a sport led by himself, Luke Littler among others and he only sees it growing.
"Wayne (Mardle) said when he walked past me I picked you again, I thought oh no what are you doing to me. Obviously two great performances in the first two games, Nathan (Aspinall) was fantastic against Luke (Littler). Luke is such an amazing player, he gets to the point when you think play with two darts.
"It wasn't the best final, we didn't play our best. Maybe as we both played really well we thought that the pressure was off us and relaxed a little bit and tried too hard. But back-to-back nights in the Premier League is really tough. The first two games I was at my top level, eight 100 averages in a row. I don't think it was in the final, but all that matters is winning."
"What me and Luke have done since the World's is amazing for the sport. I think the sport is in the best place possible. Right now the sport is in the best place it's ever been in my opinion. There's going to be an exciting sport for at least the next nine months."
Next aim in his sights is the Premier League Darts night record held by Michael van Gerwen of consecutive nights won and he will hope to do that in Dublin where he has heritage and roots.
"I think I will. Dublin is going to be amazing. I've heard from all the professionals that it's probably the best atmosphere out of any of them. I think every point matters, last year 24 points got you through. I think this year 30 points will get you through I really do."
