De Sousa survives comeback from Chisnall to reach maiden TV Quarter-Final

Jose de Sousa is through to his maiden TV Quarter-Final after seeing off Dave Chisnall in a thrilling tie to finish the first night of Last 16 action at the Grand Slam of Darts.

De Sousa led 8-2 but had to withstand a fightback against Chisnall as he couldn't finalise the tie initially but he came through 10-7 in a thrilling end.

At the first interval, De Sousa was leading but only just at 3-2 up as Chisnall missed three darts at doubles and the former took out a third consecutive leg after being 2-0 down. It became five consecutive legs as he broke again to make it 5-2.

De Sousa continued to head towards the finishing line as he went 7-2 up with a 12-darter for a seventh straight leg and he made it 8-2 but while Chisnall went to pieces before that, it was 'The Special One's time to capitulate.

He missed more and more crucial doubles and Chisnall broke to make it 8-4 and 8-6 and suddenly there was a different complexion. It was soon five in a row for the St Helens ace as he made it 8-7.

But he missed double 18 to level up and pivotally De Sousa took out 61 to go 9-7 up and finished proceedings off from there.
